Federal Highway Administration
's Office of Safety works to reduce the number of crashes on U.S. roadways, and the severity of crash impacts. Within the broad highway safety mission, the Office of Safety's principal focus is on highway engineering. They support the development, testing and implementation of technologies and procedures to improve the physical safety of the Nation's roadway infrastructure.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's mission is to reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. FMCSA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and employs more than 1,000 individuals, in all 50 States and the District of Columbia, dedicated to improving bus and truck safety and saving lives. Federal Railroad Administration was created to promulgate and enforce rail safety regulations; administer railroad assistance programs; and conduct research and development in support of improved railroad safety and national rail transportation policy. Federal Railroad Administration

Governors Highway Safety Association focuses on the human behavioral aspects of highway safety. Such areas include occupant protection, impaired driving, speed enforcement, aggressive driving, and pedestrian and bicycle safety, as well as highway safety issues relating to older and younger drivers, drowsy driving and distracted driving. Governor's Highway Safety Office works with local entities to provide federal funding for traffic safety education, enforcement and engineering projects that save lives and reduce injuries in Ohio. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration
NHTSA
investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and enforces fuel economy standards, helps states and local communities reduce the threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle anti-theft regulations and provides consumer information on motor vehicle safety topics. Traffic Safety and Occupant Protection


National Work Zone Information Clearinghouse provides information and referrals to government agencies, public and private organizations, and the general public concerning the safe and effective operation of traffic work zones. The clearinghouse is a cooperative partnership between the American Road & Transportation Builders Association and the Texas Transportation Institute. National Work Zone Information Clearinghouse

Ohio Department of Public Safety is responsible for a variety of safety issues including homeland security, highway safety, alcohol enforcement, emergency medical services and disaster recovery.  It is the umbrella agency for the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Emergency Management Agency, Emergency Medical Services and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Ohio Department of Public Safety


Ohio Rail Development Commission coordinates freight and passenger rail systems in Ohio.  The commission: assists businesses locating or expanding in Ohio with rail spurs and other rail infrastructure; helps rehabilitate light density branch lines on small short-line and regional railroads; assists in the acquisition and continued operation of branch lines; addresses special rail problems such as mainline congestion and assisting businesses with rail-related issues; and maintains Ohio’s readiness to move toward intercity passenger rail service. Operation Lifesaver is a national, non-profit education and awareness program dedicated to ending tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights of way. Operation Lifesaver

Ohio Safe Commute is a program which places law enforcement officers in high-crash corridors statewide to reduce speeds, encourage safe driving behaviors and clear crashes from highways more quickly.  The program is sponsored jointly by the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Department of Public Safety.  Ohio Safe Commute

Ohio State Highway Patrol is an internationally accredited agency dedicated to professional law enforcement service. The Patrol provides statewide traffic services, including enforcement of traffic laws and emergency response to keep roadways safe. Ohio State Highway Patrol
