Guernsey County To Get Safer Crossing
(Columbus) – The Ohio Rail Development Commission has given the Ohio Central Railroad permission to proceed with construction of a new, state-of-the-art grade crossing at Byesville Road in Cambridge. The crossing, which is now protected only with warning lights cantilevered over the two-lane roadway will get new lights and gates.
Typically, it takes 10 months to a year to complete a grade crossing project, which includes design and engineering as well as the actual construction.
ORDC has upgraded over 1000 railroad grade crossings across Ohio. An inventory of all of Ohio’s grade crossings, including photos, can be accessed through the ORDC website at www.dot.state.oh.us/ohiorail/
(The Ohio Rail Development Commission is an independent agency operating within the Ohio Department of Transportation. ORDC is responsible for economic development through the improvement and expansion of passenger and freight rail service, railroad grade crossing safety and rail travel & tourism issues.
