ORDC Provides Grant to
Lorain Port Authority
COLUMBUS - The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) has approved a $7,696 grant
to the Lorain Port Authority to purchase an easement and a 1.2-mile section of track that CSX
Transportation Corporation has abandoned in the City of Lorain.
James E. Seney, Executive Director of the ORDC, said the Port Authority needs the track and
easement to guarantee it access to a planned multi-modal transportation center in the Grove Site
redevelopment project near Lorain's central business district. The transportation center could be
used as a future passenger rail facility and for freight purposes.
The Port Authority has started a $13 million to $20 million redevelopment project along the
Black River. The multi-modal transportation center is expected to cost $6.95 million and would
be paid for with funds from the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Federal
Government.
"The ORDC grant will help the Port Authority bring this project to fruition and will preserve this
rail corridor for future use by passenger and freight trains," said James E. Betts, the Chairman of
the ORDC.
