BACKGROUND
This summer, the Ohio
Department of Transportation is initiating a six-month study to
find solutions that reduce congestion and accidents on Interstate
270 at the interchanges of State Route 315, U.S. Route 23 and
Interstate 71. A recent analysis concluded this section of highway
is the fourth most congested/ high-crash freeway location in the
state. The interchanges were built in the '60s and serve about 10
to 20 percent more traffic than they were designed to handle. As a
result, this section of highway experiences about 542 accidents a
year.

ODOT STUDY
Working with the community, ODOT hopes to develop
short- and long-term fixes that can reduce excessive weaving and
merging between the interchanges, which often leads to congestion and
accidents.
To complete the study, ODOT is committed to:
-
Working closely with the public to confirm and
clarify the problem and learn of any issues, community goals and
needs that may be impacted by future improvements
-
Collecting and analyzing information such as
traffic and accident data, social and economic impacts to quantify
existing conditions along the corridor
-
Using the data and public input to identify
possible solutions
-
Evaluating solutions based on their effectiveness
and need, and
-
Recommending the best strategy for improving the
corridor
