Ohio
Department of Transportation Mentor Protégé Program
In Partnership with The Ohio Contractors Association
Welcome to the Mentor Protégé Program sponsored by The Ohio
Department of Transportation (ODOT) and The Ohio Contractors
Association (OCA). You are invited to join the nearly
500 Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE) who count on us
for access to Ohio's ever increasing highway construction
program.
The Mentor Protégé Program
was created in 1999 to foster a more competitive environment
for ODOT projects by increasing DBE participation. Our
immediate objective is to strengthen the login term stability
of DBE firms by focusing our resources on those critical
business skills that contractors need to compete successfully
in the open market. By enhancing business skills and
where warranted, broadening construction activity, DBE firms
elevate the volume of projects they are capable of bidding and
profitably performing.
Involving larger and more
established construction companies in the development of
growing DBE firms is crucial to the success of the Mentor
Protege Program. Our partner, The Ohio Contractor
Association is committed to foster a climate in which DBEs
can establish mutually beneficial relationships with OCA
members for guidance and direction.
The ODOT Mentor Protege
Program offers a strategy for success that goes far beyond day
to day construction activities. We seek to enhance the
viability of DBE firms now, and into the future by accessing
the knowledge of more experienced contractors.
